The Penn Student Government Public Service Fellowship seeks to shift the culture at the University of Pennsylvania around public service by emboldening students to pursue internships, projects, and eventually careers in the field. It aims to expand accessibility to public service opportunities for undergraduates.
Students may either apply to an existing internship or coordinate an internship of their choice with a non-profit. All internships must be associated with a social impact, non-profit organization, or local, state, or, federal government agency.
Grants will be awarded up to $5,000 depending on the conditions of the internship. It will both fully fund internships and augment stipends below $5,000. While priority will be given to projects addressing domestic internships in public service, broadly defined, internships focused on international issues will also be considered.
Full-time, regularly enrolled 1st year, 2nd year, and junior undergraduates in good standing at the University of Pennsylvania are eligible to apply. International students are welcome to apply but must be eligible to work in the US to receive funding.
Recipients are expected to return to Penn to share their experiences with other students and to contribute to a culture of public service at Penn and beyond. This includes being an active member of the fellowship community throughout the recipient’s time at Penn and beyond.
