The Sarah Katz Award is an annual award designed to provide funding to students who have shown outstanding dedication to the progression of health literacy and heart health. This award is in memory of Sarah Katz, a Penn student who worked tirelessly to expand access to CPR and AED training. Students who are actively involved in, or are interested in pursuing, projects designed to improve health literacy with an emphasis on heart health are encouraged to apply to be awarded funding.
In order to be eligible for the Sarah Katz award, the student must be a full-time undergraduate expecting to graduate in May 2025 and beyond enrolled at the University of Pennsylvania. Examples of such initiatives include, but are not limited to, performing research in the intersection of cardiovascular health literacy, initiating outreach efforts, and creating informational resources that can be distributed, among others. Note that awards cannot be used for single events (such as one-day volunteering events) or as an academic/tuition stipend. Award recipients may receive up to $5000 in funding towards their proposed budgets.
