Description

The SNF Paideia Program invites applications for one-year SNF Paideia graduate fellowships. SNF Paideia creates and supports opportunities for the Penn community to learn about  dialogue, from  dialogue, and how to  dialogue, towards a goal of individual and societal wellness. Through SNF Paideia-designated courses, a Fellows program, resources, events, and initiatives, the program contributes to the diverse dialogue landscape at Penn. SNF Paideia graduate fellows contribute intellectually and operationally to the work of the SNF Paideia Program and have the opportunity to engage in a graduate fellows community of practice.

Encompassing a wide range of practices, SNF Paideia’s dialogue work emphasizes intentionality, curiosity, humility, and community as its core values. We encourage meaningful exchange across identities, ideologies, experiences, and histories, and collaborate with many partners across campus and beyond to promote opportunities for students to practice this exchange. Striving to embody the Hellenic concept of paideia, or "education of the whole person," SNF Paideia helps students develop the knowledge, skills, ethical frameworks, and experiences necessary to serve their communities as resourceful, engaged citizens.

Graduate fellows can gain experience teaching and advising undergraduate students, designing and implementing student-oriented dialogue programming, and working professionally as part of a multi-disciplinary team to achieve academic program goals. Graduate fellows receive a $7,000 stipend.

Eligible graduate students:

  • are enrolled through May 2027 in a graduate degree program at the University of Pennsylvania;
  • have a demonstrated interest in SNF Paideia’s mission and values;
  • are available to participate in a required Dialogue Leadership Training on August 23 and 24, 2026;
  • have approval of their graduate program or advisor to take on this fellowship; and
  • are eligible to receive additional pay through the University.

This is a part-time fellowship. Each fellow can expect to contribute roughly 10-15 hours per month to fellowship work, beginning in August 2026 and concluding in May 2026. Each fellow’s responsibilities will be finalized prior to accepting the fellowship. Graduate fellows may:

  • Serve as a teaching assistant for one of three half-credit SNF Paideia undergraduate fellows proseminars by attending weekly class sessions, providing student advising, grading assignments, supporting course logistics, and teaching one or more sessions of the class. Proseminars meet weekly in the fall semester;
  • Contribute to dialogue resources and trainings, including supporting the organization and delivery of dialogue workshops and the creation and maintenance of dialogue resources
  • Support special projects and student-oriented programming in co-curricular initiatives like PIT-UN, Political Empathy Lab, and the Paideia Ambassador Program, including organizing events, podcasts, and workshops;
  • Communicate SNF Paideia’s mission and values through content creation for newsletters and online platforms;
  • Support Paideia-designated courses and instructors through communications, course visits, and data collection; or
  • Join other projects, as determined in consultation with the SNF Paideia staff team.

Applications are due by 12 noon on Monday, March 16, 2026: https://curf-upenn.smapply.io/prog/snf_paideia_program_graduate_fellow/
